December 23 everything was going great. My husband was with my dad playing darts in the mancave (storage shed), I was reading, my mom was Christmas shopping. See me and my husband live in a small camper on my parents property. We are hooked up to their power and water. We wash clothes and shower up there too. Our hot water tank is to small for a decent shower.
Well my husband had some clothes going so he was waiting for them to dry. After their dart game he started walking to their house and saw a lot of smoke. They took off running there were flames coming from the kitchen. Apparently the heat sensor went out on the dryer and it went up in smoke.
Now my parents have 2 dogs and 3 cats. My husband called me down there to help call Jasper, their older dog, because she was still inside. She hates loud noises and my dad had ammo out and it started going off.
So there we were yelling for Jasper there was so much smoke we don't even know how long it had been on fire. It took like 30 mins for a fire truck to get to us. We had to move the car out of the way. They started going in and busting out windows, pulling out kitchen appliances that were on fire, it was awful.
About 45 minutes into this disaster they found Jasper in the bedroom laying in the closet. They tried to revive her but it was to late. Another 10 minutes and they found 2 of her cats, Munchkin and Rosco. Her 3rd cat Rolo is skittish and stays outside most of the time so she made it. Their other dog, Scotch, was laying by the front door on the couch so he had no problems getting out.
It was awful and everyone was in tears. The fire was first discovered at close to 11pm so you can imagine how stressful it was trying to get settled. Everyone was finally getting comfortable, well as much as we could, at about 2am.
So we were left with no electricity or water because we ran off a well. Well my uncle had a nice generator that he is letting us use. And thank God our camper has a propane heater and my parents already had a small one in the mancave.
Well my parents have such a large network of people that within a week they had enough furniture to nearly furnish a new house, twice as many clothes they had before, and food galore.
The second hand clothes were actually an upgrade compared to the ones they had. My husband lost all of his clothes, which were horribly stained anyway, in the fire. My mom has been passing me boxes of clothes too. All the clothes I wear could fit into a laundry basket and I was fine with that. Now I got so many I don't have anywhere to put them.
My parents, well my dad, have friends that aren't known for their great reputation. They are cool but are still shady. Well to our surprise they are the ones who stepped up to help. They were the ones with the furniture, and the ones with the food, and gave them money and clothes. Their neighbor, who they don't even know really, set up a collection and by just asking a few people in the neighborhood raised them over 1000 dollars.
One of my dad's friends who is pretty cool had a single wide that he was gonna sell them for 650. My parents were highly grateful for that. Then a pastor that has known my dad's family for years and even married my brother turned into a snake.
See he called the guy and told him he wanted to buy it because he was gonna give it to my parents, then tried to sell it to them for 150 more than what he paid. Then guess what. The man was pulling it away and destroyed it. The axels broke and he drug it so far the trailer nearly caught fire because of the friction.
Well my aunt was gonna give them a motorhome before they saw the trailer. So even though they lost the trailer they still have something to move into. Which is great. This sounds selfish but I am actually irritated they are getting the motorhome.
See my parents told me they were gonna still get the motorhome so we could have it since our place has more problems than we thought.
We have no AC and there are so many holes in this thing it's unreal. The tub is cracked and when I noticed it was when a large puddle was actually gathered in my livingroom. The floor is actually weak from so many leaks. Then the backdoor is warped and leaks the frame has rotted so now the door doesn't shut right. The place were the AC goes is actually empty so there is a huge hole in the ceiling that isn't covered. The first large rain we had we discovered how bad a leaking problem we have. It ran from the front of the camper to the back. I woke up to it pouring from the ceiling and running down the wall behind me. The ceiling was so full of water I actually had to put a slit in the livingroom so it could drain. The front door is loose and doesn't shut properly and there is a hole in the floor there too.
We paid 800 for this 25ft camper. The storage space is laughable. The pole you hang clothes on actually buckled. There is no storage space under it and the only flap on the outside leads into the camper so idk what the point of it is.
Idk I guess I was just really excited to get into a bigger place even though it is technically still an rv. My husband told me he will not take it now. Even if they try and give it to us.
We still have to live on this property. And my husband wants to get the trailer they were gonna get. He thinks the damage isn't as bad as they make it seem. I told him I didn't want the trailer because once we can I want to move into an rv park. They aren't expensive and have everything included. We have 2 dogs so if we could I would just move into an apartment but that is out of the question. Idk I just got my hopes up for it. We all know 2020 isn't the year for that. Oh well all we can do is hope for a new start in 2021.
