So through the rest of April and May Connie seemed to be doing great. She was dropping weight like a champ. Then we started to notice her energy level was low. She began blacking out and started just staying in her bedroom.
Her friend started coming over to help her do basic things. We also began to notice that the places she got cut at were not closing up. Sometimes it even looked like they were getting worse.
After a couple of weeks of seeing her go down hill her friend said she had enough. She came down to see my sister-in-law. She told her that Connie was looking bad and she refused to go to the hospital.
Back story on the refusal. Connie was on disability. The insurance she had gave her like 4 ambulance rides a year. Well her husband kept telling her that he couldn't afford to call an ambulance. That if he did call her insurance wouldn't cover it. So she refused saying she wouldn't be able to cover the bill. Her husband is a whole series himself.
Finally my sister-in-law marched up to her house and told her that she better go to the hospital. That she looked close to death and that she needed to go for her granddaughter. That finally broke her. She eventually called for an ambulance. Upon reaching the hospital she was diagnosed with severe malnutrition and a urinary tract infection. She ended up being there for a week. She opted to go to rehab instead of directly home. That way she could work on gaining her strength back.
So ends Part 2 of Connie's story. This entry was short but the rest will be longer. So buckle up for an emotional journey because it has just begun.
