Now July of 2018

My husband travels for his work. Most of the time I enjoy going with him. so for most of 2018 we were in GA. Well it is July and my husband are out of town. Now before we left Connie was in the hospital about to transition to rehab. The only reason they wanted her in rehab is so she could continue to heal and get her strength back up for when she went home.

Connie's friend is also a friend of mine. She would call me on updates and give us progress reports. Well about a week in to rehab we found out she fell. She was still weak but decided to go to the bathroom by herself and fell. That little bump became an avalanche of problems.

So one day we get a report that she isn't doing well. She had basically began to go backwards. We were told she wasn't really responding and looked weak. We were a little concerned, but she was in a medical setting so we figured that if anything was medically wrong that would know. So everyone chalked it up to depression really from being at the rehab.

So it is the end of July and we were about to head home. Well we left the hotel and ended up getting in at around 3 or 4 am. Now I am exhausted and I have seizures. So I figured that I would sleep that afternoon and go see Connie the following day. My husband was going to see her that day. He was a big momma's boy and didn't like what he was hearing. Well we get a call that says she is not doing well at all. That her kidneys were barely functioning and they were going to send her home on hospice. Needless to say I was no longer sleepy and we headed straight for the rehab facility. We were in for a huge shock.

I had by this time called my sister-in-law crying because I think they are about to send her home to die. She leaves work asap and her and my niece got there about the same time we did. When we walked into the room our jaws had hit the floor. She was laying there not acknowledging anyone. She looked like she had a stroke. My husband was terrified and the first thing my sister-in-law and I said was where is the doctor. We wanted to see hear the doctor's report. When we had a sit down they told us that nothing was medically wrong with her. That her not eating was all in her head.

I jumped on the phone. I was not letting her come home in this condition. I called UAB hospital and told them what was going on. After speaking with them they asked me if there was an alternative hospital just incase. I told them we would be fine with Huntsville as well.

When we all got home I told my father-in-law what was going on. That she was not coming home in that condition and that I am already making plans to have her evaluated at an actual hospital. Not even 24hrs later she was moved to Huntsville hospital. Upon getting there I explained to the doctors the deal. I also told them from watching her it looked like she was possibly having seizures. They tested for every neurological problem and she came out normal. No strokes and no seizures. When she got there they did all manner of tests. Her diagnosis was shocking.

She had a urinary tract infection! They said it was extremely severe and she was also severely malnourished. They started her on antibiotics and within 24hrs she started to show signs of improvement. Then we started seeing the neurological and physical tole it had taken on her.

She could no longer feed herself, she had brain damage, and she could no longer walk. That was the beginning of a long road. I stayed with her 24/7. I was there for every doctor that came in.

I am going to end it here because the real trouble happens in August so I don't want to get to far ahead of myself.
